Group work on ethical theory and practice

Break up into small groups. Delegate one or more members of your group to (1) prepare a summary of your group's discussion and (2) make a list of your group's members. Make sure each member of your group has a record of the discussion. [Note: Participation in group work counts as class participation.]

Discuss your answers to the following questions.

  1. Have your group think of at least four examples of people who generally demonstrate/demonstrated good moral judgment and acted accordingly.   What characterizes the ways they did this?  Were there common factors or not?
  2. Of your examples, did the men and women show different or similar styles or judgment and action?
  3. Did the people you listed seem to have the same or different theories of right and wrong?   How so?
  4. What, if anything, do your answers suggest about the relation between theory and practice?
