Introduction of the Peer Education in Human Relations Program

Lervan Johnny (Student)

As leaders of the 21st century, it is imperative that Le Moyne College students are prepared to take their places in the "real world."  The level of academic performance at Le Moyne College is exceptional.  However, cultural competence is as necessary as a Bachelor's degree for we now live in a multicultural society.  The focus of the Peer Education in Human Relations Program (PEHR) is to address issues of diversity and social justice through dialogue and various other settings.  The main "isms" that are focused upon are racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, heterosexism/homophobia, classism, and ableism.  For each "ism" the program addresses the myths, themes and dynamics.  Students learn about the cycle of personal oppression and figure out where they are in the cycle.  This presentation will introduce the PEHR program to the Le Moyne community.  The audience will be encouraged to participate in the dialogue.
