This site focuses upon narrative perspectives in psychology and allied disciplines and provides an introductory and interdisciplinary guide to bibliographical and Internet resources concerned with "the storied nature of human conduct" (Sarbin, 1986) broadly conceived. Narrative in psychology itself has developed particularly notable links with the emergent discipline of cultural psychology (Bruner, 1990).

Keywords: narrative, narrative psychology, discourse analysis, discursive turn, story, storytelling, cultural and cross-cultural psychology, social science, qualitative research, social constructivism, constructionism, role theory, dramaturgy, dramatism, postmodernism, critical realism, pedgagogy, dialogism, dialogical science.

Archival Notice for This Site
27 January 2013

Visitors will note that I have not updated this site in any significant way since the late 2000s. By way of explanation, I began working on a book dealing with the narrative perspective in psychology. While I had hoped that the book would appear by 2013, it won't. I can't estimate when it will be finished. In the meantime, I have just completed an annotated bibliography of narrative psychology (with Ruthellen Josselson) for Oxford Bibliographies Online (OUP). This resource should appear sometime later in 2013. This by-subscription comprehensive academic resource also has the option for researchers to purchase online/electronic/Kindle versions of each bibliography for a quite reasonable price (usually about $7.99) at Amazon.com and other online distributors (Details at the Oxford Bibliographies site). You may wish to consider looking over those materials or ask your academic librarian whether your college/university has an institutional subscription.

I am now making this site an archival one, that is, I will not be adding to the materials but I will keep it online. I know that gradually many of the online links here are or will become inoperative. I will not be making any alterations in these, but suggest that browsers use Google, Bing, or another search source to check if a resource may be available at a different URL.
