This is an "open format" midterm. It can be taken as an "open-book, "in-class
or take-home, group, individual, or oral [with the following instructions].
Written exams should not exceed ONE page
per answer, and should include appropriate acknowledgment of sources and
assistance.
EVERY EXAM SHOULD INCLUDE ANSWER TO NUMBER 1. If taken
in class as an individual effort, answer 2 of the following. If taken as
a take home (by one person), answer 3.
All take-home are to be typed, double-spaced, with citations for sources
and assistance).
The exam may be done by a group of up to 3 members: If there are 3 members,
answer 5 questions; if there are two members, answer 4 questions. Group take-homes
are to be typed, double spaced. If you wish to take this exam as an oral,
please make an appointment as soon as possible.
EVERY TAKE-HOME EXAM IS DUE IN MY OFFICE (RH 436) BY FRIDAY, OCTOBER
18, BY 2:30 PM.
1. How would Skinner respond to Buber's discussion of what happens when I and Thou is "applied" in education or psychotherapy? Critically evaluate this Skinnerian response.
2. Develop a Buddhist critique of Skinner. Critically evaluate this

3. Develop a Taoist critique of Skinner. Critically evaluate this

4. How do you think a follower of Freud would respond to Buber's
discussion of what happens when I and Thou is "applied" in education
or psychotherapy? Critically evaluate this Freudian response.
5. How do you think a follower of Freud would respond to Taoism?
