In class writing exercise: a midterm review

1. If you have not completed the midterm, take a piece of paper now and explain why. Make sure to write at least one hand written page of explanation. Read your midterm or your explanation of why you have not completed it carefully.

2. Give an example of a thesis sentence from the midterm or your explanation. What kind of argument did you offer for it? How was your argument related to your goals? How was it related to your audience's goals?

3. Did you consider your goals and the goals of your audience before writing the thesis statement and argument? Why or why not?

4. Does your explanation or midterm seem to reveal what Elgin would call a preferred sensory mode? Do you think this is generally your preferred mode? If not, what do you think is your preferred mode?

5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of your preferred mode? If you don't think you have a preferred mode, what are the advantages and disadvantages of not having a preferred mode
