Group work on Orson Scott Card's "Middle Woman" for PHL 302

Break up into small groups. Delegate one or more members of your group to (1) prepare a summary of your group's discussion and (2) make a list of your group's members. Make sure each member of your group has a record of the discussion. [Note: Participation in group work counts as class participation.]

Discuss your answers to the following questions.

1. What are Middle Woman's most obvious virtues? Are they considered to be virtues in her culture? Why and/or why not? What about in our culture?

2. What does Middle Woman do well?

3. Was "Middle Woman" a morally good person? Why or why not?

4. Which theory (or theories) presented in this course's lectures and readings makes the most sense of Middle Woman's life and/or her decision making?
